Police Officer arrested for DUI Caught on Police Bodycam
On the morning of April 21, 2023, Officer Sangenys Estrella-Garcia responded to a complaint about an off-duty police officer speeding along Jimmy Leeds Road and Wrangleboro Road in Galloway, New Jersey.
Upon receiving additional information about the vehicle owner, Officer Estrella-Garcia decided to approach the erratic driver at his residence instead of intercepting him enroute.
Upon arriving at the residence, Officer Estrella-Garcia witnessed the driver, identified as Matthew Gorham, stumbling out of his still-running vehicle. During the investigation, Gorham claimed to be a police officer and disclosed that his handgun was left inside the vehicle. The investigation reports confirmed the presence of a loaded handgun in Gotham’s vehicle at the time of his arrest.
Gorham was taken to the police station and charged with DUI and reckless driving. His breath tests revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.23%, nearly three times the legal limit for driving in New Jersey.
Court records revealed a plea agreement wherein the reckless driving charge was dropped, and Gorham pleaded guilty to DWI, resulting in a $690 fine. He also received a three-month installation of an ignition interlock device but retained his license
