The Staircase Murder [True Crime Documentary]
Kathleen Peterson's body was discovered in a pool of blood at the bottom of the stairs at her Durham, North Carolina, home in December 2001. Michael Peterson, her husband, was convicted of first-degree murder in her death in October 2003.
Peterson's conviction was overturned in December 2011 after the jury was mislead by a state blood analyzer. A 73-year-old Peterson took an Alford plea for voluntary manslaughter in February 2017. Peterson has always maintained his innocence, and this plea permitted him to continue to do so. Kathleen's murder remains a mystery, even if the investigation has been closed.
