Baseball Bat Murder [True Crime Documentary]
The body of Janet Myers is found in a room where the childhood friends Kerry Myers and William (Bill) Fontanillefo fought one another for 10 hours with a knife and a baseball bat during a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans.
They accused each other for the murder. Janet Myers, according to authorities, was battered to death in her home on Feb. 24, 1984, with an aluminum baseball bat belonging to Fontanille while her husband was there. T he Myers' 2-year-old son, Ryan, was injured but recovered. Kerry Myers and William Fontanille later testified that they were unaware that something was wrong because they had been battling for 10 hours in another part of the house that day.
Fontanille later testified under oath that he and Kerry Myers would often stop fighting and watch tv, even clasping hands to avoid stabbing each other.
Fontanille was originally charged with second-degree murder, with Myers serving as the state's star witness. The jury in that case was deadlocked. Prosecutors later charged both men. Myers chose a judge-led trial and was found guilty of second-degree murder. Fontanille was tried by a jury at the same time and found guilty of manslaughter, earning a 21-year sentence.
